I love an ostentatious home moment, I really do. An elegantly draped Hermes blanket, a Helle Mardahl Bon Bon vase, a Hunt Slonem bunny, a Ginori coffee cup, a whopper triple-wick candle...
Okay, I really love a candle though. Fragrance is such a telling signal to the people around us. And I love to drape my house in it as much as I love a spritz of perfume behind the ears. So just a quick newsletter today about the simple subject of that very thing.
Right now I’m back to my old standby, an enormous Diptyque Baies candle front and center on my coffee table. But I wanted to know what other people are burning…
“The Voyage et Cie Cannes Vetiver scent. I first smelled this candle in the bathroom of a fancy dinner party I attended. It was one of those magical nights filled with laughter and inspiration, the candle smells amazing and reminds me of ‘the sophisticated creativity’ that flowed through the dinner party.” - Nathalie Walton, CEO / Co-Founder, Expectful
“I always have a candle or two burning and like to switch things up between daytime and evening. My current fav rotation is the Hotel Lobby classic candle during the day. It's clean and elegant and really does smell like a fancy hotel. At night I switch to something sexy and a little smoky: I think that Sidia Braless and Byredo Amber Japonais smell very similarly: smoke, amber, a little musk.” - Grace Atwood, Founder, The Stripe
“I love all candles by my friend Eric Buterbaugh. His fragrances are absolutely decadent and enchanting. Never overpowering, but rather the perfect accessory to an already gorgeous room. Oud Saffron Flower is my signature scent… it is quite incredible that with a lil’ flame and the right candle, you can set a mood with scent alone…” - Ashley Longshore, Artist
“I’ve had a love affair with Diptyque Feu de Bois for many years. The sexy, woodsy, cozy fragrance definitely screams wintertime at a chalet, but I burn this year-round. It’s a forever staple. -Jasmine L. Pierce, Writer, Ebony, POPSUGAR
“My favorite candle is the Alabasters Ernesto by Cire Trudon. I love the Trudon Collection because the scents are unusual and distinctive. They are impossible to go unnoticed. On top of that, the alabaster illuminates beautifully when lit. Elegant.” - Daniel Zimmerman, Artist, and Designer, The Drawing Room
"Point Dume by Moreno is my current home fragrance obsession. Moreno was started by a Swedish designer inspired by her love of California. Point Dume is a mix of Black Currant, Freesia, Rose, Patchouli, and White Musk. I love that it's a touch of everything--warm, sweet, musky, and floral--without being overpowering. It's a beautiful scent that feels totally unique and fresh.” - Hattie Sparks, Designer
