If I took one thing from Fashion Month, it’s that I’m tired of all these men. The world is already full of men telling women what to do — must we really let them dominate what we wear, too? Blazy for Chanel was God-tier, sure, but it doesn’t compensate for the glaring imbalance. The scale has tipped too far.

I am not alone in pointing out that there aren’t enough women like Ms. Prada, Louise Trotter, Rachel Scott, Phoebe Philo, and The Olsens at the helm of “big” houses, full stop. And honestly, who understands what women want to wear better than women themselves? If you’ve never lived in a woman’s body, then what exactly are you creating, your fantasy, or ours?

As a result, for this month’s Inbox Stylist, I decided to focus solely on brands helmed by women. We have long amplified and celebrated female voices in design through our Designer Dossier series, but demonstrating practical application is equally important.

So, I started making a list of all the female designers and creative directors I could think of, mostly those who are not at big houses, but rather those who have left an indelible mark on the industry with their voices independently. There are so many of these women that I admire, I had to split this send into two parts! If you don’t see your favorite in this send, don’t worry, she’s in part two.
