I used to own a creative agency that did all kinds of advertising, marketing, and activations for a pretty wide range of entities, from celebrities to real estate developers to megabrands like DoorDash and Diageo.
One of my favorite employees loved telling our clients, “You’re the bride.” It became sort of a company ethos for us. Our clients were the bride, we’re the wedding planner, and it was our duty to simply handle it. I can think of a million situations where things went sideways and our clients were never the wiser. Santa’s stuck on 400? Get that guy over there in a suit! Entire shoot has to be scrapped? PIVOT! Pandemic hits and entire world comes to a halt? Here’s an entirely new marketing plan!
I am in the deep throes of wedding planning, including all of the ancillary stuff around it, like a Bachelorette party, a bridal shower, etc. But let me tell you, friend, I do not feel like “The Bride.” I feel more like the quarterback without his helmet. I feel many other things, but I do not feel protected.
I feel bad for every woman who has ever been called a “Bridezilla”. She probably began the process completely sane and then finally snapped. I get it now!
