New York in the spring is really something. It’s my first, and it’s beautiful. Yesterday, I walked to the farmer’s market at Union Square with a little basket, content to only pick up a few things, knowing we had plans for dinner out. Half an hour later, my bag had quickly overflowed. ‘Tis the season for bounty!
I ran home to grab my biggest tote, an enormous green thing Flamingo Estate fashioned for their Hamptons pop-up with MyTheresa last summer. It’s a fantastic, pragmatic bag. And when I tell you it’s enormous, I fit a huge potted rosemary plant inside and threw the whole thing over my shoulder, no problem. It really is an impressive schlepper.
I scolded myself for wearing all white. I thought these new Slim Palazzo jeans from Frame were the perfect thing to wear — they’re so stretchy and lightweight that I figured I’d be super comfortable all day. I was! But the white was better for with my original, tiny basketed plan, not my pivot into dirt-lugger.
I also got two bushels of Japanese Magnolia branches, green garlic, tons of herbs including the first basil of the season, and ramps! Oh, ramps. They have such a fleeting season; there's so much dip and ramp butter to make in such a short window.
I wonder what I looked like walking down Park Avenue with all my leaves and plants. On my mosey home, the sidewalks were dotted with tables filled with lunch diners sipping Spritzes, reading books, and hanging out with their dogs. It was downright bucolic.
Back at our apartment, I blended the ramps, onion, and herbs with Greek yogurt to make a quick dip. Then, while I waited for the butter to soften, I washed and saved the rest— ready to be blended and stored in the freezer.
I pulled out the Pimento cheese I’d made a few days earlier for my friend Lilly who considers it a food group. She came over in the afternoon with her sister, our friend Sophie, and two dogs,
