THE LIST: An Elite Perfume Group Chat, Copying Kendall Jenner's Paris Looks, and Zac Posen's Titan Takeover of GAP Brands.
This week's whos, whats, and wears.
Hi friends, how are you? Short and sweet today! I’m trying to keep my head above water — in a good way. Simultaneously writing a book, planning a wedding, and maintaining a business leaves me little time for peripheral stuff like parties and dinners lately, but I’m not complaining. These are happy commitments!
Speaking of happy commitments, I’m hosting an intimate shopping event at the UES Violet Grey this month with . We opened up RSVPs to paid subscribers earlier this week, but I still have a few spots available—email claire@jessgraves.com for more information.
The Love List’s Chat is busy, as usual. Threads to check out: this elite perfume group chat, a great question about where we’re getting iPhone cases right now (I say Ossa!), and of course, our monthly resale thread. The resale thread always amazes me. This group is so chic. Y’all are always peddling great vintage, pieces from reader favorite brands (Khaite, High Sport, even those Row Jellies), and then icons like will casually pop in and sell her RHONY reunion dresses.
In other news, it’s Paris Fashion Week and the runways have been prolific. Louise Trotter’s debut at Bottega was God Tier. I always love reading what
has to say from the Paris shows, even if I don’t always agree with her, I think she writes from such a deeply informed place, and I appreciate that her tone isn’t loaded with snark. Industries need good criticism, and I will die on this hill!Anyway, here are the rest of this week’s whos, whats, and wears, including a few finds for home as we nuzzle down into homebody season.
Today, in random but delightful: Did you know Lenny Kravitz has a design studio? Taste clearly runs in the family. His collaboration with CB2 is full of pieces that reflect his well-honed eye and comfortably echo high-end furniture that goes for tens of thousands.
GAP brands are on fire right now. Zac Posen has made some brilliant moves in his tenure, surprising even the most discerning fashion purists with high-quality designs at affordable mall prices. Gwyneth + Apple for Gap Studio? Chic. A handbag launch at Old Navy, and the bags are good-looking?! (Hello, $44, and I would never know it.) And then, there’s Banana Republic not only embracing their 90s heyday with a great vintage capsule but employing killer casting like David Corensweat. I say this all the time, but never skip the men’s section. This rollneck Donegal sweater could pass for pricey, but it clocks in at $150. And this leather jacket? Stop it!
A riff on a look Kendall Jenner wore in Paris that I liked: The Row Falken hat, Marlo bag, Claudette flats. Hermes cape, Frame The Pencil jeans. Everything in this industry comes back to Mickey Drexler, doesn’t it? After starting Old Navy and spearheading J.Crew’s most iconic era, you probably know he’s now working with his son Alex Drexler at Alex Mill. The brand has a small team with its ear to the ground in New York, and they’re constantly churning out interesting collaborations. Right now, it’s with the shoe brand Margaux. The blue slate satin of the Romy Mule ring a Chanel bell for me, and the Clara flats look like something I’d slip on with a cashmere sock and The Row’s Gala pants.
If a true clog is more your speed than a slim mule, I have the CHRISTEN suede clogs (which I wear with Lisa Yang socks) and think they’re the crème de la crème of the category. But for around $150, you can’t beat Rothy’s viral clogs, very similar to a style from The Row. I like the spice herringbone and the chestnut merino wool.
New arrivals to collection C from Phoebe Philo, including a teddy jacket I’m dying to cuddle with.
I fell down a wildly frivolous 1stDibs rabbit hole again. Indulge me: a vintage Van Cleef lighter, a Hermes champagne topper (you win if you buy this for the bride and groom) and pill box, a chic pair of night stands, a S/S 2007 Prada fringe jacket, a quilted Chanel box clutch with an on-trend tassel, and freaky YSL costume earrings that make just about any outfit evening-appropriate.
Small, but significant improvements to my life lately: a pair of sewing scissors designated for the closet to snip tags, makeup wipes that look good on my vanity and don’t destroy my skin, backup wired headphones, a sleek coffee machine dedicated only to cold brew (no really, this thing is life-changing), and a little box cutter to leave by the door for breaking down packages.
Configuring this look from what I already own: The Row top, Sibem sweater, Gunther shorts, and Squared Compact clutch. Gianvito Rossi mules. I will leave you with this Row look from Ayo and Danielle (no last names needed), which I’ve already adapted into my own version, and a question: Is everyone also shopping for a plaid shirt and a black cashmere poncho? Or just me? Lmk.
JESS this chic makeup remover dispenser is about to be theee holiday gift. such a great pull!
