I love Victoria Beckham Beauty and I’m so intrigued by the foundation drops but my question is if we’re layering it over SPF, are we actually getting any of the benefits of the TFC8? (Literally just something I thought about.)
Ooh such an interesting question! I looked into this for you. TFC8 isn’t a single “active” like retinol or vitamin C. It’s a blend of amino acids, vitamins, and synthesized molecules that act as signaling triggers — the idea is they help guide nutrients already present in your skin to the right places, supporting repair and renewal. That mechanism depends on absorption into the upper layers of skin, not just sitting on top. So your thinking makes complete sense! SPF usually comes last in skincare because it needs to form a uniform film to protect against UV. That film can reduce the penetration of anything you put on top of it. When you apply the Victoria Beckham Beauty foundation drops over sunscreen, the SPF acts as a barrier, so the amount of TFC8 that actually gets into the skin is likely reduced... That said, most modern sunscreens (especially chemical filters and lightweight hybrids) are not completely occlusive. Some actives can still diffuse through, though the efficiency is lower than if the drops were applied directly to bare skin. In short: yes, SPF does blunt some of the benefit, but you’re still getting something. If you love the finish of the drops, use them for makeup payoff and let your TFC8 cream/serum do the heavy lifting underneath. Maybe the solution here is an SPF setting spray instead of layering it underneath? Sorry for the long-winded answer!
Not at all – I love this sort of stuff. To be fair, I guess it's a question that applies to all makeup with 'skincare benefits' (I love the Westman Complexion Drops too). If you're applying it over a good layer of SPF, as we're told to, then you're not really getting the full benefit. Although everyone I've seen use it says the finish is gorgeous so maybe that's worth the price tag alone.
