The Scent of Old Money and Perfect Posture
Refinement and a ribbon collection, bottled. Plus: new Toteme, fine art selects, and tassels. So many tassels.
I made this first collage with a nifty little tool called Zeen. People always ask me how I make my graphics for the newsletter, and I’m always sad to report there’s no trick; it’s just a graphic design background and Adobe CS fluency. But I met Zeen’s founder recently at a party which sent me poking around — it makes putting together little collages and graphics dead-simple, no experience required. It even integrates with ShopMy.
The Private Sales are coming! Let’s link ‘em: MyTheresa just wrapped up, FWRD started yesterday, Net-a-Porter begins today, and Moda starts tomorrow. You will need to be logged in and at a specific spending tier to see discounts reflected in your cart. Moda’s is especially good, with 50% off a massive selection of good stuff — but for two days only, so you know, don’t dilly dally.
I’m in Charleston, S.C., writing this from my hotel bed with a full belly of room service and reruns of Golden Girls on TV. But tomorrow, I shop, and one of my favorite stores to visit in town is Wentworth. This glorious and expensive thing was perched on a surface taunting me, and while I have zero spots for it in my home, maybe one of you does.
I’m redoing our living room. I’m sick of it. It’s full of stuff from our loft in Atlanta that was almost three times as large, and all of the furniture is way too big for my space. I can’t breathe in there. A fresh coat of paint is on the books (Farrow & Ball’s new shade, Scallop), new, more size-appropriate sofas, a cocktail table, a little rearranging, and an excuse to do my favorite thing: shop for art. And little bobs. And photography. I by no means want it perfect, houses should be a little fucked up and lived in, but my eyes need something new to look at.
One thing that stays, though: my Maison d’Etto Verdades candles, which, now that I know they exist, I can never go back to life before them. (Verdades is also a dazzling perfume.) An accomplished equestrian (currently working her way up to the Grand Prix Level of Dressage), brand Founder Brianna Lipovsky based each elegant fragrance on special horses that have been pivotal throughout her life. Don’t take that literally, though; this isn’t perfume that smells like an animal. Rather, they’re special olfactive triggers — metaphors of memories she’s captured and bottled. They are extraordinary perfumes. I wear Canaan… Tuberose gets me every time.
Spring! It's time to deep clean. I have the best housekeeper in the world, and I’ll gatekeep her until the day I die. We agree on Preston Lane, a beautifully fragranced line of home care items that actually look nice if someone leaves them out on the counter. Using the whole kitchen set will make your entire house smell like heaven, but the countertop spray alone will do the trick.
Positively on pins and needles waiting on Kallmeyer PF’25 to hit. This dress and bag! This jacket and its little tassel! Hurry up, hurry UP!
Also on my wish list is this Maria McManus scarf, these Toteme mules and collarless coat, this men’s Bottega sweater (matches!!!), and this swishy belt from Attersee.
Wishlisting on, how about this Prada terry number? Yum.
Style with these Philo-ish sandals and these beachy-but-not-too earrings.
Speaking of, did you catch Ms. Philo’s takeover of FT last weekend?
Look at this cutie pie Bottega bag. It makes me want to go on a picnic.
I’ll leave you with this brand, which is not new, but I’ve just placed a hefty first order to do a little R&D. Are those prices too good to be true? I’ll report back.
If you need me, I’ll be streaming the new Maren Morris album until further notice. Catch you on the ‘gram.
The new Kallmeyer is *positively* perfection!!
So many great picks as usual! I love Verdades but I’m partial to Canaan as well! It’s such a good scent. I only have the discovery set but debating the full size. And keep us posted what you think about DISSH- I’ve found their stuff hit or miss.! Curious your POV!
