Hi friends, are you having a lovely day? I’ve had a hectic week prior. Last Thursday, I had my sister and some girlfriends over for dinner when we suddenly noticed blood on my sister’s pants. We quickly figured out it was coming from my dog Birdie’s leg — she’d cut herself somehow. I freaked out, and we rushed her to the emergency vet, where we spent the next 4 hours utterly fraught while she underwent emergency surgery.
I came home with a bandaged and druggy dog expecting to scrub blood spatter and dinner party dishes at 3 am, but my incredible friend Gigi and her husband stayed behind and cleaned everything up while we were at the vet. We should all be so lucky to have a friend like that!!
This is to say that I’ve been homebound, keeping an eye on Birdie as she heals. She is doing well—she’s young, healthy, and spirited. But it was such a scary night. I’ve been taking care of her 24/7 since, and between that and an already incredibly busy time of year, I’m at my emotional and mental max. If anyone needs something from me for the next week, sorry. I love you, but no, you don’t.
I normally don’t drill on about my social life because it can sound name-droppy and obnoxious to drone about how *fabulous* I am because look at all the *cool parties and people* yadda yadda who cares. But I was thrilled to get out of the house a bit this week, so I’m going to break character. The superficial drudgery of weeknight events in New York felt like a huge treat.
Substack threw a party uptown for their best-selling writers, and I spent the evening bouncing between there and Bemmelman’s with friends, relishing my Gibson martini.
Yesterday, there was all sorts of whatnot happening, from food-driven gifting suites to Toteme showing previews of their summer collection. Sophie Billie Brahe opened a gorgeous new store and had a little party. And I had dinner at the Chelsea Hotel with a wonderful, warm group of women Jordie Foster put together on behalf of some London girls in town for a visit, the jewelry designer Lucy Delius and the shirting brand With Nothing Underneath.
Last night, there were even more parties, including Monica Rich Kosann opening up in Bergdorf’s, a fun Shinola shindig (I am very into the new Circadian 36 Monster Automatic in the white mother of pearl) and a splashy night thrown by the WILDLY over-the-top new Louis Vuitton store.
The holidays are in full swing online, too. November’s been a blip. I don’t know if it’s the election or the economy, but we all seem to have collectively decided that Christmas will begin EARLY this year. I am already seeing trees up, and all the storefronts are festooned and sparkling. The digital storefronts are falling in line, rolling out Private Sales for VIP customers, which will soon roll into Black Friday weekend.
Here is a tireless and thorough edit of the best Private Sale booty:
MYTHERESA
On Wednesday, someone complimented Jordie’s boots, and she mentioned that they were from Dorothee Schumacher. She, Michal, and I almost unanimously said, “Underrated.” Even if you don’t listen to me, I would listen to Jordie and Michal. Why we don’t talk about Dorothee Schumacher more, I don’t know, but her clothes are great, the fit is fantastic, and her price points are significantly lower than similar lines in her ecosystem. There is lots of good stuff from her on the MyTheresa Private Sale, including this leather jacket and these great boots.
Frankie Shop’s Gaia coat has earned cult status among the fashion-minded in New York for its expensive The Row-meets-YSL oversized swish and conservative $400ish price point. The only reason I can figure this coat is marked down anywhere is that a.) retailers know how popular it is and have overbought, and b.) they only have odd sizes left. The similarly-cut Jane coat is also available if you want something a tad dressier. The popular Rhea turtleneck looks good on just about everyone and is also discounted.
Many of my friends joke that Jacquemus’ marketing is better than the clothes. But some strong exceptions exist, including this haircalf bag, which would electrify any muted winter look.
The Co leather field jacket that everyone (including me) went gaga for in the early season is now marked down.
A handful of advanced-level fashion items from Lemaire are 30% off. I think this skirt is cool. Their collaboration with Filt, who defined the classic French market bag, is also on markdown for a song.
There are gobs of Lisa Yang sweaters marked down! I recommend this caramel-colored brushed cashmere number or one of her easy-matching pant and top sets. I also love these preppy stripes.
Good things from the elegant Tove: a tailored blazer and a cocoon-like coat.
A fantastic menagerie of statement-making Jil Sander accessories are here, too; this goat hair tote, a glinty gold clutch, and haircalf slip-ons.
Wrapping it up with this perfect suede bomber.
MODA OPERANDI
An already well-priced leather bomber on further markdown.
I know some of us have mesh fatigue, but these loafers are a fresher riff.
A banger of a bathrobe would be fabulous under the tree.
NET-A-PORTER
Some cool Dries here! This blazer is so good, and these heels on the right girl would be *chefs kiss*.
A staple onesie for the Pilates girlies. And some Sambas for the walk there.
Ooh la la! If you have a lover, maybe this sexy number.
I’ve been eyeing these fantastic loafers for a while, and now might be my moment…
I didn’t include SSENSE or FWRD because I don’t think the markdowns or selection are strong enough yet. Holding out for Cyber week!
For what it’s worth, I always want to hear about the fun, cool-girl parties you’re invited to!
Hope birdie is on the mend! ♥️
Poor Birdie! Sending you love.
