Hi friends,
Gift-giving is one of my favorite ways to show love. I revel in watching a loved one unwrap something that makes them feel seen, loved, and understood. One way I’ve been distracting myself is by getting a jump on my holiday shopping. It’s soothing to simultaneously channel my energy into something positive and give myself something to look forward to. I find wrapping meditative. (I know. I’m weird.)
When chatting about this month’s Net-a-Porter Inbox Stylist (a reader favorite!), we kept circling back to the idea of a gift guide — but something stepped up, soothing, and more service-minded.
Let’s kick off the season with gifts for the most incredible girl you know. After all, that might be you — and you deserve a little treat.
For the holiday hostess, the capital “Q” QUEEN who is already planning Thanksgiving menus, the one who keeps everything running: nobody is cooler than the moms and matriarchs. They’re the glue that holds our families together, and they often have little time to themselves.
A turtleneck in a festive shade from beloved “cool girl” brand Lisa Yang swathes her in something cozy, while High Sport’s viral kick flares have the structure of pants but the stretch of a legging—perfect for bending over… or overindulging. She can plod around in a Charvet slipper's soft and polished ped. Simple silver earrings finish it without being cumbersome.
Maybe you’d like to elevate one of her everyday rituals with beautiful new tea cups or a luxe Christofle water pitcher? Or gift her a beautiful analog planner to keep her commitments in order.
For the hibernators and homebodies, chic pajamas and slippers she can answer the door in for the third delivery of the day (and maybe also a boxcutter).
If she’s braving the elements, gift her the standards — in the best possible materials. A cashmere cardigan, beanie, scarf or socks for bundling up and a little sparkle to finish it.
For the highly online, her wish list is guaranteed to contain one of the year’s most viral fashion moments—like that Toteme coat, brought into the new season in a camel shade and longer silhouette. If she’s a scroller, she’s also likely coveting the brand’s popular bucket bag.
The Row’s over-the-top Ophelia sweater, Le Monde Beryl’s wildly comfortable Mary Jane flats, or a piece of the internet’s favorite jewelry would also make her happy. Finish it all with one of IYKYK designer Gigi Burris’ hats.
Lots of people will tell you flowers, candes and jewelry are boring gifts, but I am not among them. All three are gifts I love to receive! But if you’re worried about coming across as impersonal, elevate a bouquet by gifting it in a showstopping vessel. A candle is instantly more meaningful with a beautiful candlestick or a snuffer top. And ponder how you’re giving jewelry — maybe do it in a keepsake box, a smart travel carrier, or a sleek vanity tray.
Do you hear that? It’s the sound of my printer. 🖨️ 🤓
This post itself provides some good escapism 💜
