The List: a Members Club for Shopping, Surfacing the Good Fall Coats, and a New-to-Market Beauty Edit.
Plus, a very Prada for nada canvas jacket.
Today's send is in partnership with CAKE, a new members-only shopping platform.
The TL/DR is this: a $100/year CAKE Membership unlocks access to thousands of dollars to spend (a.k.a. CAKE Cards) on in-season product from a curated set of brands (including some of my favorites like CO, Jenni Kayne, Mansur Gavriel, Frẽda Salvador, Jennifer Behr, and more). Plus, there are invites to VIP events and experiences. No, there's no catch.
You have to be invited by a current member (that's me) to join, and I have just a few invites to share; sign up with sponsor: JESS at this link.
Thank you to Rachel Tashijan for yesterday's enlightening piece on the Substack Fashion multi-verse in the Washington Post. BIG STUFF.
It’s a delicious time to dress right now in New York City. You can get away with anything. Flip flops with a coat? Sure, why not? My mind is on outerwear (coats for fall, groundbreaking), and I landed on CO’s website after seeing my friend Meg in a perfect cotton field jacket from the brand. Y’all, I look at a lot of clothes online—a lot. And very few of them elicit the visceral response I had when I saw the very field jacket… cut in leather. LEATHER! A leather. field. jacket. CO is living inside my brain.
COS keeps dropping bangers, too. Among them, this tailored and wildly classic duffle coat (with a hood!), this fantastic leather-trimmed scarf coat, and this extremely Prada-looking canvas jacket. They also riffed on Phoebe Philo’s tassel clog and applied the idea to a more pragmatic clutch — melikes!
On that note, this is one of my favorite saved eBay searches.
Loulou Studio is one to look at if you crave The Row, but your budget won’t abide. The brand offers many of the same minimally-minded silhouettes for much less dough. Sensible! Will the fabrications be the same? Well, no. That’s why The Row is so expensive in the first place. But for an excellent leather blazer that’s not $7k, it’s unbeatable.
A quick beauty minute: I’ve been testing tons of products for our upcoming Skincare Week, which begins in October. A few quick callouts that are new on my desk but impressive from the jump: The Outset (yes, Scarlett Johansen’s brand) has a Micellar Cleanser that is perfect for you evening double-cleansing types as a second wash. I’m also impressed with their Purifying Blue Clay mask, a little tighten/puff/pore excavation triple-threat. I stash it in my shower and use it during tub soaks. Furtuna’s new lip duo is a banger, a granular scrub paired with a glassy balm/gloss hybrid in tiny, portable pots that go anywhere. YSE Beauty’s Your Favorite Ex exfoliating pads use gentle chemical exfoliation to revive tired/congested skin. I love that they aren’t too spicy; my skin gets more sensitive as the weather cools. YSE is $50 off with CAKE, btw.
Therabody’s new cooling/heating wand is deserving of its own beauty bullet. I LOVE THIS THING. They’ve redeemed themselves from my dead Theraface. I’ve only had it a couple of weeks, but it’s been living on my bedside table. The cooling function feels like wiping an ice cube across your face without the messy drip—perfect for instantly depuffing last night’s salty dinner or indulgent cocktails off your visage. The heating tool is a nice little zit shrinker. It makes any eruptions on your face put up and shut up so that you can at least get some makeup over them. It's a nifty little gadget if you’re into that kinda thing.
I had the pleasure of having my eyebrows done with Jimena (THE Jimena) last week and I feel like I got a bleph. She makes you feel magnificent when you’re on her table. And she’s got our matches in-studio if you’ve been on the hunt!
Is anyone else craving riding boots again? They’re just so elegant. I mentioned this in chat, but I went to BG last week looking specifically for a fall/winter boot. I wanted a longer toe, a slim but not too slim calf, and a little lift in the heel. I found it in these Proenza numbers (10% off at MyTheresa right now), which are still in the hands of team BG because the lovely onsite shoe repair man is adding rubber to the soles and stretching the top stitch for me a tad, so that they won’t be too tight with jeans.
Róhe is my new favorite line. The coats and knits aren’t to be missed, particularly this double-breasted grey number, which is YSL-long, luxe, and swingy. I can’t wait for the colder weather. It’s a close second behind TWP, which is still my darling. The runway was spectacular.
Let’s end on a strong note: with Attersee’s Brea bag, updated in a rich shade of chocolate satin. They super-sized her, too.
The CO leather field jacket 🤩 🤯 SO good 🙈
Slaying it, as always ❤️
