The List: Back to School
The sun is setting on summer, friends. Cooler weather is on the horizon and back-to-school season teases us with those first flirtations of fall. I haven’t bought proper school supplies in some time, but there’s something about this time of year that demands we all shift down and re-focus on our more scholarly exploits.
Costco is my favorite place to get school supplies, a $5 rotisserie chicken, and a lifetime supply of biscotti… but now it’s chic? Do I need to be wandering around Costco more often? Have you ever surprised yourself with a fashion find at Le Costco?
I’ve stumbled across some truly MVP beauty finds lately if you’re looking to refresh your makeup bag: Byredo eyeliner (the needle-think brush is it), Saie liquid blush — which on me, blends into a tawny sun-kissed near-tan (as demoed here on IG), Westman Atelier translucent powder (finally, a non-messy powder for on-the-go) which I apply with BeautyBlender’s excellent newish-to-market puff, all things Phlur (!), Olaplex’s reparative styling creme for those days I want to embrace my inner Parisian and air-dry my mane, Ami Cole’s mascara, and the Braun epilator, oft-lauded and for good reason.
Remember when I wrote about tote bag signaling? Well, the ironic boat and tote trend takes it to a whole new level. Drop me a comment if you have any suggestions for what to put on mine plz.
These are the cool girl pearls now.
Speaking of cool girls, Le Catch found all my favorite looks from Copenhagen Fashion Week.
We are just back from another long stay in Carmel, California (more on that soon) where chilly beaches and hilly roads demand good sneakers. I recently added these (selling fast!) and these (selling faster!) to my closet.
My daytime uniform this trip was a unitard (I wear both this one and this one on the reg) with this perfect mid-weight jacket zipped over, and Dorsey diamonds. (P.S., Dorsey founder Meg Strachan is a great Instagram follow.)
Your grown-up back-to-school cultural consumption list: this book, which I tore through in two days, this book (if you can get your hands on it) this chic crossword puzzle book, this GREAT list of back-to-school movies, and this searing NYT piece on Bama Rush.
No back-to-school list would be complete without school supplies! Add to cart: my favorite minimalist pens, my favorite Japanese notebooks, transparent sticky notes, highlighter colored pencils, and chic #2 pencils.
My primary fall fashion hunt is the perfect, oversize leather jacket, one so well-made, that I can pass it down one day. This one by Dorothee Schumacher and this one by Khaite have both caught my eye.
Soho House has released Picante hot sauce, a riff on their most ubiquitous cocktail. Who would like to weigh in on this?
You guys are always asking me for wedding guest dress recommendations. I get that, it’s an oddly tough thing to shop for, myself included. It is also a topic I truly loathe covering, because it inspires me zero and who wants un-inspired recommendations from someone whose heart isn’t in it? BUT! Stylist Olivia Bannock does a great newsletter with lots of useful recs, many under 500 bucks. To her I send you! She’s fab! You’re in better hands!
Counting down the days until my fav injector gets her hands on this stuff in December.
We’re working on a two-part September issue with our friends at MyTheresa — drop me a comment or reply directly to this email with your fall fashion questions, link requests, and other Autumnal desires. If you’re not familiar with MyTheresa, btw, they’re like an online department store with the best possible buy/edit, a full size run, and the nicest salespeople. (Seriously, their personal shoppers are amazing.)
I’ll be in New York for the better part of Fashion Week, snooping on what all the fashion girlies are wearing. Come with me on Instagram?
