Every year during Fall Fashion Week in New York, I gather together a group of designers, founders, and creatives across a wide berth of disciplines and industries (fashion, beauty, food, media) for a rousing game of Uno. Yeah, UNO!
Fashion Week can wear you down a little, so it’s nice sometimes to spend a night doing something silly that asks nothing of you except to have fun.
I don’t tell people to post on social media; I don’t have a dress code. All I ask is that they show up ready to make a new friend.
The thing that makes it really fun is that it’s sudden-death, and the prizes are always high stakes. This year, the winner got a $5k shopping spree to Vestiaire Collective!
But nobody went home empty-handed; Beauty Pie stuffed gift bags with makeup, alice mushrooms passed around trays of their new nootropic party trick chocolates, and
sent everyone off with Rest & Digest tea to prepare them for the marathon week ahead. This whole thing began three years ago when I got some girls together in my living room for game night. But now, the party has developed a reputation and life of its own, and in year three, it has turned into a thing, with production and event planners (thank you, Futong & Friends team!) and sponsors (Thank you, Beauty Pie, Vestiaire Collective, and Alice!).
We had it at People’s this year (the place to go out in NYC, btw), which turned out to be a perfect setup for a bunch of simultaneous one-on-one card games. As is tradition, we started with New York Happy Meals (martinis and French fries) to get everyone socially lubricated.
Everyone told me they had a blast, and guests showed up in some great looks.
