For the next month, I’ll be fully submerged in capital-F Fashion—appointments, shows, and all the madness that comes with New York and Paris Fashion Week—so I can bring back the very best to you.
This time of year, there can be ten things you’re expected at in a single day. Nobody can keep up with that unless they are 21, on a lot of cocaine, or both. I get worn down, so this year I’ve brought in reinforcements for the first few days — the instant morale boost that is my friend Abby, who is visiting from Atlanta.
When I look at the data from my Fashion Week coverage, it doesn’t actually perform all that well. It does alright, but it’s a prescient reminder of what Laurel wrote last year: to paraphrase, that very few people care about fashion week outside of the group of people attending the shows.
So you have this tiny contingency of people writing for each other, a little performance of who got invited to what in a little online circle jerk, bouncing around off each other in an algorithmic game of Pong.
I’ll do a little something to document the nitty-gritty for those of you who like that stuff. Still, for the rest, I pledge to try my best to extract the relevant bits using a more anthropological approach, which (hopefully) you can use.
In the meantime, if you’ve got the shoppies, here are some of the standouts (apparel, beauty, fragrance, bags, jewelry) from last February’s FW appointments that have made it across my desk and onto the shoppable Internet. I submit them for your scrolling pleasure.
Your lists > everything.
Loved this so much.
I love your anthropological approach to fashion week, and literally wait to experience your storytelling all year long. I can’t wait!
