What I Actually Bought on Black Friday
And how I plan to style it.
Hi! How was your Thanksgiving? We ate at The Corner Store and had a really decadent, fun meal. Their food is allllll about pleasure, and I love that dedication. Anyway, though Cyber Week usually means more work for me than play, I did find the time to do a little bit of shopping in between reporting sale coverage.
So, what did I actually buy with my real dollars this weekend? A pair of BMX trousers from the Phoebe Philo private sale, which I’m going to use to anchor more basic pieces when I need a weird foil. My dog chewed the straps off not one but three of my favorite bras (Hank!!!), so I also treated myself to some Fleur du Mal (this, this), EBY, and Simone Perele (this for $22.50 — their archive sale is 70% off).
I found a pair of mules by The Row that I’d eyed earlier this year, marked down 40% on Moda Operandi with only my size and another left. Grabbed ‘em. They already arrived, they fit and they’re comfortable. In the same Moda cart, I added one of Ossa New York’s iPhone cords (40% off), this one in a zippy, festive configuration that screams “hello holidays!”. Finally, I took advantage of Violet Grey’s 20% off discount to get a bottle of one of my all-time favorite fragrances, Frederic Malle’s Portrait of a Lady.
For others? I treated my (22 year old) sister in law to be to a pair of Freda Salvador’s beloved Elba penny loafers (25% off) and a leather faux fur-trimmed coat from Avec Les Filles (40% off). A nice bottle of shaving cream from Fur for her boyfriend (30% off). A Tatcha restock for my Mom (Dewy cream, Rice wash, and Essence — 25% off), a discounted Therabody LED mask for a certain skin-concerned bridesmaid (this thing gives you a scalp massage!), and a Cumulus cold brew coffee machine ($200 off) + a Loftie alarm clock for a special someone in my life who doesn’t sleep well (I love the brown noise function on mine — 25% off). Oh, and Beautyblenders for stocking stuffers (25% off)!
