You’re Invited to a Special Party
Join me in New York to celebrate some of the city’s most beloved designers.
If you’ve been a reader of this newsletter for a while, you know our Designer Dossier series, where we showcase independent female voices in the design and entrepreneurial spaces.
Excavating and amplifying their creative work is close to my heart — not only because I find exquisitely made and beautiful things, but because of the friends I have made along the way. These women bolster and empower me and one another, enriching the creative community and the fashion industry at large.
In the 1980’s, about 70% of all clothes in the U.S. were made here. Today that number has dropped to 3%. Artisan craftwork is a threatened industry that needs to be led with outrageous care. It is because of this that this Giving Tuesday, I’m partnering with Closely Crafted, a New York based non-profit that shares my values. They are passionate about making sure the legacy of independent American craftsmanship endures.
Investing in local, handmade items fuels the economy and cultivates financial wellbeing within the fashion industry. It contributes to job creation, advancing sustainability, and retaining generational knowledge among artisans through crafts like millinery, basket weaving, tailoring, leather work, metalsmithing, gemstone setting, pleating, pattern making, and couture.
Through contributions this Giving Tuesday, Closely Crafted can provide resources to independent designers like training, artisan equity, mentor and apprenticeship, workflow support, and platforms for their work to be seen and patronized. Without them, sustaining a future for the fashion industry would be impossible.
Readers of The Love List in New York are invited to join me for Closely Crafted’s annual Holiday Party, a festive fundraiser of cheer and giving back.
A donation of any amount will grant you access to the event, which I am proud to host.
Even if you aren’t able to attend, your donation is appreciated.
If you donate $50 or more, email me your receipt at heyjg@jessgraves.com and I will give you a complimentary one-year paid subscription to The Love List.
Your generosity and attendance will have a tremendous impact on the very women we’ve introduced you to over the years like Gigi Burris, Erin Pollard of Underwater Weaving, Edie Parker, Lizzie Fortunato, and other beloved designers like Christopher John Rogers, Jonathan Cohen, Brandon Maxwell, Alabama Chanin, Lucchese, Sergio Hudson, Monse, and Mirror Palais.
Thanks as always, for being here. It’s because of you that any of us get to do this for a living.
Xx, Jess
