Your Thanksgiving Starter Kit
Cocktails, playlists, shopping help, even a (champagne) drinking game.
Hi! How was your weekend? Mine was really nice. I went to a cozy dinner with my friend Jen, hosted by the beloved denim brand Still Here at Gem, where there was a very memorable cake.
We got lucky with our seating arrangement, perched in a little end-table pocket with some great girls, including the stylist Jessi Frederick, who was wearing a Still Here denim shirt I am still thinking about, so I must need it, right?
On Saturday, I met up with at Gramercy Tavern for a languid lunch over oysters and orange wine. I can’t think of anyone I’d rather spend a cold afternoon with — Dianna is walking sunshine.
It was nice to get out of the house after missing so many parties the past month — I have been locked down looking after an injured puppy and working on my book. I do kind of wonder about these New York social characters who have their picture taken at every party. Like… when do you work? Do you ever decline an invite? How do you justify it? “Networking”? Because that’s not the vibe at most of the stuff I go to. What’s the point of going to everything if you’re still… broke? Anyway. I digress.
Tonight, I have a very schmancy holiday party hosted by some lady named Gwyneth (heard of her?) and Cassandra, and then I am OFF for a whole week! You’ll still hear from me — I have a whopper of a Black Friday email on deck and a few other surprises coming your way — but I am looking forward to a (mostly) quiet calendar and a clear mind.
A thank you note to , who generously featured me in her newsletter last week. We chatted about Black Friday and the business of Substack. Anything she writes about making money or being hot always skyrockets. It’s nice to see the girls having each other’s backs around here.
But we love the guys, too! So much, in fact, that we are bringing on a Menswear Editor! Please drop a comment and leave a warm welcome for Mr. , who is a publishing and brand leadership legend — look for his first letter after Thanksgiving.
While we don’t have many men reading, we do have many women shopping for men, so I thought John, a very gifted writer (who —importantly— has a very cool wife who informs his work), was the perfect voice to lead the charge into the menswear fashion fiefdom.
Today, I want to send out a little Thanksgiving starter kit — stuff you’ll need for eating, entertaining, and pajama power shopping over the next few days. Talk Friday!

The Barefoot Contessa Drinking Game
In my family, there is only one cooking show: The Barefoot Contessa. We refer to the show’s host, Ina Garten lovingly and often, usually only as “Ina”, as though we just got off the phone with her.
